Fix

Saves you can count on

The game now saves itself after every change, so phones and tablets pick up exactly where you left off.

  • Autosave after every change in port, and the moment you switch apps or lock the screen. Phones often close a browser tab without warning, and a tester kept losing progress because of it.
  • Continue voyage now offers whichever copy is newer, this device or your family save, and says when it was saved.
  • An older copy of a captain can no longer overwrite a newer one. If two devices disagree, the game asks which voyage to keep.
  • Fixed a bug that stopped the game loading at all on older iPads and iPhones.
Update

Tougher seas for seasoned captains

Big ships and skilled crews now cost what they should, and the pirates you beat stay beaten.

  • Skilled hands ask for much higher wages, and bigger ships need more of them. Every port has a few sailors for hire.
  • Limes cost more on a large ship, and the Mediterranean pass costs more as you get richer.
  • Once you defeat a famous pirate, ordinary pirates stop claiming to sail with them.
  • False colours and papers fool pirates less as your fame grows, and the ship screen shows how well they still work.
New

Show me how: a guided first trade

New captains can let the bosun walk them through their first buy, voyage and sale, one tap at a time.

  • Offered to new captains on Cabin boy and Easy, and any time from the ⚙ menu.
  • A spotlight shows which button to tap, and the bosun explains each step. Read aloud works here too.
  • It adapts if you pick your own port, and you can skip it whenever you like.
Update

Easier to read, easier to play

A big tidy-up: clearer tabs, one-panel trading, read aloud for younger players, and plain words everywhere.

  • Five clear tabs: Trade, Sail, Ship, Town and Logbook.
  • Buying and selling happen in one panel, with a running total and your profit.
  • Read aloud: a speaker button reads pop-ups, tips and choices using your device's own voice. Nothing is sent anywhere.
  • Mate's advice: your bosun can point out cheap cargo and good places to sell. It's on for Cabin boy and Easy and can be switched off.
  • A Captain's ledger remembers the last prices you saw in each port.
  • A quick character builder sets up your captain from four questions.
  • Plain words on every button, like Buy food and Repair hull. The period terms are still there in the Learn more notes.
Update

Every ship redrawn

A fresh coat of paint: new ships, a golden-hour sea, new sea monsters and an old-style sea chart.

  • All 13 ships redrawn, from the dugout canoe to the man-of-war.
  • Battles and encounters now play out on a golden-hour sea, with punchier cannon fire and splashes.
  • The kraken, the sea serpent and the ghost ship got new art (if you're lucky enough to meet them).
  • The voyage chart has an old sea-chart border, and the mini-games match the new look.
