Silver & Sails is a family game, and it's built to collect as little as possible. The short version: the game doesn't ask who you are or track you, and we never sell anything about anyone. This website counts visits anonymously, and grown-ups can choose to give us an email address.
What we don't collect
- No accounts, logins, email addresses, phone numbers or real names are required to play.
- No advertising, and no advertising or analytics trackers of any kind in the game.
- No cookies on this website, and no third-party analytics, advertising pixels or social trackers.
- No location, contacts, camera, microphone or device identifiers.
What this website collects
This applies to silverandsails.com only. None of it happens inside the game.
Anonymous visit counts. To know roughly how many people visit and which links bring them here, the website counts page views by page, by the site that linked to us (for example "reddit.com"), and by a short campaign tag in the link if there is one (like ?ref=newsletter). To count unique visitors per day, we combine your IP address and browser type with a random value that changes every day and scramble the result. We store only the scrambled value, never the IP address, and the daily value is deleted, so the scrambled values can't be traced back to you or linked from one day to the next. There are no cookies. The campaign tag is kept in your browser tab until you close it. If your browser sends a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal, we don't count your visit at all.
Email updates (optional, adults only). If you sign up, we store your email address, whether you're a parent or teacher, the date, and the campaign tag you arrived with. We use it only to send news about Silver & Sails, a few times a year at most. Every email has a one-click unsubscribe link, or you can email us. We don't share or sell the list. If we use an email service to send it, that service will hold the list on our behalf only.
Stories and classroom requests (optional, adults only). If you send us a story or request classroom access, we store what you typed in the form. We publish a story only if you tick the box allowing it, and then only with your first name and kids' ages. Classroom requests are used only to reply to you.
The website's forms are for adults. Children should not fill them in. These records are stored with Cloudflare, our hosting provider. To see, correct or delete anything you've sent us, email us.
What the game stores
On your device. The game keeps your current progress and settings in your browser's local storage, so it's there next time you open it. Clearing your browser data removes it.
Family cloud saves (optional). If you use a family code, the game saves your captains to our database so you can load them on another device. A save contains the family code, game progress, and any captain, crew, ship or pet names the player typed in. That's all. We ask players not to use full real names. Saves are stored with Supabase, our database provider, and can only be read by someone who has the family code.
Ordinary server logs. Like nearly every website, our hosting provider (Cloudflare) and database provider (Supabase) keep short-lived technical logs, such as IP addresses and request times, to run and protect the service. We don't use them to identify or profile players.
Fonts. The game and this site load typefaces from Google Fonts, which means your browser contacts Google's servers. See Google's privacy policy.
Purchases
When the full game unlock goes on sale, payment will be handled by a third-party payment company that acts as the seller of record. They collect the payment details and the email address needed for a receipt, under their own privacy policy. We receive a confirmation that a purchase was made and which family code to unlock. We never see or store card numbers. A purchase should be made by a parent or guardian.
Children
The game is made for children and families, and it is designed so that children can play without giving us any personal information. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Because players can type names into the game, we encourage families to use nicknames or made-up names. If you believe a child has entered personal information in a cloud save, contact us and we will delete it.
Deleting your data
You can delete any captain from inside the game. To delete everything saved under a family code, email us with the code and we'll remove it.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update the date above. If a change affects how we handle information, we'll say so plainly on this page before it takes effect.
